| Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1972, started his musical studies in Spain at the age of ten and his professional activities as drummer and percussionist began four years later in Argentina. Santiago Vazquez is one of the main elements in the new generation of Argentinean creative musicians. He is a very important character within the musical scene of Buenos Aires, combining projects of his own with his work as a sessionist, producer, arranger and teacher. Playing his principal instruments, percussion and drums, Santiago has performed and shared projects by figures such as Dino Saluzzi, Luis Salinas, Pedro Aznar, «Mono» Fontana, Nestor Marconi, Miroslav Tadic, Vitor Ramil, Roberto Goyeneche, Lito Vitale and many others. |

As a composer, he has created for the theater and cinema and made music in several countries. As the conductor of the improvisation orchestra Colectivo Eterofónico, he gathers many of the most interesting musicians of the creative scene in Buenos Aires with whom he has edited two records. As a member and founder of the band Puente Celeste, that received the 1998 Jazz Revelation award by the newspaper Clarin, for the album Santiago Vazquez & Puente Celeste. Vazquez produced the new tango album Será una Noche with Pedro Aznar and Marcelo Moguilevsky among others. |

| Santiago toured in Europe and Latin America as a drum player and percussionist, teaching seminars on the rhythms from Río de la Plata. Wide influenced multi- instrumentalist, his music combines elements form such diverse styles as jazz, XX centurys traditional written music, Argentinean folklore, and music from Morocco, India, Zimbabwe, Java, Brazil or Bulgaria, free jazz and experimental music, tango, pop or drum & bass. |

| Among the instruments he plays we can name, berimbao, tablas, Moroccan bendirs, drums, guitar, bass, piano, mbira, and doudouk, and also instruments of his own invention, made of trash and home objects. His training with many of theses instruments took place in their countries of origin. Santiago Vazquez has studied composition, arrangement and conduction with different teachers from Argentina, Spain and USA. The California Institute of Arts gave him a scholarshiped for the study of composition and «world music». back to top |
